Malcolm Crompton is Managing Director of Information Integrity Solutions Pty Ltd, providing high level advice to private sector and public sector organisations on building trust through excellent data governance, particularly in their collection and use of personal information. He is also the Asia Pacific based Director of the International Association of Privacy Professionals and Director of Bellberry Limited, a private not-for-profit organisation that provides health ethics committee services in accordance with the NHMRC Statement on Ethical Conduct in Research Involving Humans.

He was Australia's third Federal Privacy Commissioner for five years until April 2004. He led the implementation of private sector privacy law that commenced in 2001. He has established a global reputation for his forward thinking on the handling and governance of personal information and has been the invited speaker at many events in North America, Europe and Asia as well as Australia.

Malcolm has advised APEC regularly on implementation of the APEC privacy framework, including leading seminars held in Hong Kong and Korea in 2005 and Australia in 2007. He has also consulted to the OECD, leading technology companies, Australian financial institutions and government agencies.

He is also a member of the Microsoft Trustworthy Computing Academic Advisory Board , the global External Advisory Board of the IBM Privacy Institute, the Reference Group for the Privacy and Identity Management for Europe (PRIME) project and the Expert Advisory Committee on Information Technology of the Australian Medical Association. He is a member of a number of international privacy award judging panels.

While Commissioner, Malcolm was also a member of the National Health Information Management Advisory Council; the Review of the DNA forensic procedures under Part 1D of Commonwealth Crimes Act 1914; and the Advisory Committee to the Joint ALRC/AHEC Inquiry into Protection of Human Genetic Information. He hosted the 25th International Conference of Data Protection & Privacy Commissioners in Sydney in 2003.

 
 

Between 1996 and 1999, he was Manager of Government Affairs in Canberra for AMP Ltd.

In the previous 20 years, Malcolm held senior executive positions in the Federal Department of Finance, served as both a superannuation scheme trustee and scheme founder and worked in the Transport and Health portfolios. He started his career as a research scientist.

Malcolm's work was recognised in 2004 when he was awarded the inaugural Chancellor's Medal for distinguished contribution to the Australian National University. He has degrees in Chemistry and Economics.

Robin McKenzie is Principal Consultant with Information Integrity Solutions Pty Ltd. She brings an extensive range of skills to IIS and has an established track record in managing and completing complex and sensitive projects on time, on budget and with outcomes that have the necessary stakeholder respect and support.

Robin has worked in both the public and private sector. Most recently she held a senior position with the federal Office of the Privacy Commissioner. During over five years with the Office in senior roles in policy and corporate and public affairs she played a key role in a significant Office projects including:
 
Implementing the private sector provisions of the Privacy Act including developing the guidelines and information sheets
Overseeing the drafting and passing of the resolution relating to short privacy notices at the 25th International Conference of Data Protection & Privacy Commissioners in 2003
Managing the review of the private sector provisions of the Privacy Act
Researching and writing major speeches on leading edge areas of privacy including biometrics and regulatory issues
Overseeing community attitudes towards privacy research carried out in 2004

She has recognised expertise in analysing legislation, services and programs, developing policy, working with stakeholders, organising consultations in a wide range of contexts, and writing reports and other documents that are well structured and easy to read and understand.

Robin has extensive knowledge of the Privacy Act and privacy principles and how to apply them. Other areas of privacy and information management she has specialised in include biometrics, identity management and development of privacy policies and short notices that are easy to read and go the heart of consumer concerns. In addition she has expertise in evaluating laws, programs and services from the point of view of cultural and linguistic diversity, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander heritage protection law.

Between 1994 and 1999 Robin was a partner in a consulting company that conducted review, evaluation and research projects, including for the Family Court of Australia, the NSW Law Reform Commission, NSW Attorney General's Department, the federal department administering childcare funding programs, and Blake Dawson Waldron. Before that she worked with the Australian Law Reform Commission for five years.

Robin has a law degree and an honours arts degree majoring in social anthropology and was admitted to practice as a Barrister and Solicitor in the Supreme Court of South Australia.

Christine Cowper is Principal Consultant with Information Integrity Solutions Pty Ltd. She brings a strong background in privacy compliance and privacy policy development to IIS. She has a reputation for providing well founded practical advice and has recognised expertise in managing privacy complaint investigations, conciliation and privacy audits.

Before joining IIS in 2007 Christine held senior positions with the federal Office of the Privacy Commissioner. During her sixteen years with the Office she held senior roles, most recently heading up the Office's compliance section and before that in policy. She has managed or worked on critical Office projects and activities including:
 
Managing the Office's complaint handling and audit programs;
Overseeing a review of the Office's approach to complaint handling and implementing the review recommendations;
Developing guidelines for the conduct of data-matching programs, linking Medicare and Pharmaceutical Benefits information and use of Public Key Infrastructure in transactions with clients;
Implementing key areas of the Office's Strategic Plan in the lead up to the extension of the Privacy Act to the private sector including developing guidelines and information sheets;
Consulting on the application of National Privacy Principles to health information including wide public consultation, production of issues paper, recommendations and final report to government;
Drafting submissions to Parliamentary and other inquiries on a wide range of matters including legislation with privacy impacts, forensic procedures, SPAM, direct marketing, telecommunications interception, and management of electronic information; and
Researching and writing major speeches on privacy including law enforcement and privacy compliance.

Christine has extensive knowledge of the Privacy Act 1988 and privacy principles and a depth of practical experience in applying privacy principles in investigating individual complaints and to privacy audits. In recent years she has also worked closely with other regulators including the Ombudsman and industry dispute resolution bodies. In addition she has a sound background in analysing legislation, services and programs, developing policy, working with stakeholders, and organising consultations, and writing reports and other documents.

Before joining the Office of the Privacy Commissioner, Christine held senior roles with the Department of Community Services And Health (now Health and Aged Care). Her other experience includes roles with the Federal Public Service Board and in credit management and commercial lending.

Christine has a post graduate certificate in management from Macquarie University and was awarded the McGraw-Hill Australia Prize for highest marks in Marketing Management.
